From November 27 to 29, ZEHO was invited to exhibit in the 2020 UPSC Urban Renewal Academic Committee Annual Conference. On the exhibition, ZEHO presented the Ecological Restoration and Wetland Construction Project of Erhai Lakefront Buffer in Dali City. Mr. Zhao Yunwei, President of ZEHO Design Group and member of the Urban Renewal Academic Committee, attended the conference and discussed Urban Renewal from the Perspective of Governance Innovation with well-known scholars and experts.

The conference set up the primary venue of "Urban Renewal from the Perspective of Governance Innovation", and 4 sub venues "System Construction", "Function Reconstruction", "Space Regeneration" and "Cultural Heritage". Experts and speakers were invited to discuss the theory and method of urban renewal with modern governance philosophy, and shared the experience of urban renewal exploration in diverse regions.

Urban Planning Society of China (UPSC) is a national academic and professional organization in urban planning. UPSC is the Excellent Academic Association of China Association for Science and Technology, a world-class society, a first-class national society for Comprehensive Reform and Governance, and a 4A level social organization of the Ministry of Civil Affairs. The Urban Renewal Academic Committee is devoted to organizing international and national academic activities involving urban renewal problems. The conference aims to strengthen the communication and cooperation among professionals, experts, governments, enterprises and academic institutions at all levels, focusing on key issues and technologies, to exchange current issues, new methods and recent concepts in urban renewal, which helps to promote the high-quality development of new urbanization, improve the level of urban renewal theory and practice to make positive contributions.

Erhai Lake Riparian Buffer Zone is the Pilot Demonstration Area of Urban Renewal

From 2018, corresponding to the requirements of "three lines" for ecological and environmental preservation of Erhai Lake, the 129 km long riparian buffer surround the lake would be regenerated. The design integrated multi-disciplinary planning, including ecological restoration, water environment, architectural style, transportation and public space to build a symbiotic ecological urban system. The planning and design contents include ecological restoration and wetland construction, infrastructure planning, slow traffic greenway design, overall landscape improvement and intelligent management system construction. We hope to show our vision of creating a symbiotic ecological city and realizing Dali's high-quality and sustainable development through this exhibition.

ZEHO took Mr. Xi Jinping's instruction that ‘Erhai Lake Must be Protected’ as the fundamental starting point, adopted the Nature-based Solution (NBS), referring to the natural ecological morphologies of the plateau lake buffer riparian zones from the same latitude, and proposed five strategies: Reshaping the Nature, Healthy Lake Ecosystem, Sustainable Self-maintenance System, Low-interference Service System, and Protecting the Sacred Natural Heritage. A plateau wetland ecological space with shoreline ecological regeneration and water purification was created, which provides a healthy living environment for locals and a fresh destination for tourists. The riparian buffer zone restored to a natural state, as well as the ecological habitats such as beaches and wetlands. Not only the pollution into the lake were reduced, but also the landscape sceneries of Erhai Lake were promoted. Its ecological value of is gradually transforming to economic value. A healthy social-economic natural complex ecosystem is gradually forming.
